Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon.

Coming back on Mist Falls Trail

I love the outdoors. I always have. Almost all my memories growing up include playing outside in the cul-de-sac or in the pool. Naturally that has carried over with me into my adulthood but it takes on different forms. I love walks, eating outdoors and hikes. So, when I had a trip planned to go visit my friend, Chloe, in Los Angeles and she had the idea of going to the national park a few hours away instead; of course I was totally in.

A week before I flew out to LA we started planning our trip in the park. We had planned to go to Sequoia National Park and as we began to plan we realized the park was a LOT bigger than we had initially thought. Through out planning we somehow we ended up planning hikes in Kings Canyon not really knowing much about it but I'm so glad we did.

The park was beautiful. The trees were humongous. The air was fresh.

One of the things I love most about the mountains is how small they make me feel. Its so humbling and really shows you how much bigger this world is and how big God is. I have never felt as small as I did in Kings Canyon. It definitely makes you feel smaller than small.

Our longest hike in the canyon was the most perfect hike. The terrain had a gradual increase and the varied which I, personally, really like because that way it doesn't get boring. Eventually the terrain got very steep and about 15 minutes into walking up steep rocky steps and the beginning of my mental complaining Chloe and I turned around and saw this:

Immediately any complaints or pains I had disappeared. It was all worth it. The view was jaw-dropping. It was in that moment that I felt so small and so in awe of our Creator. The fact that the Lord can make something as beautiful and vast as this and still care for and love me is almost incomprehensible.

It was an incredible trip and I highly recommend this trip to anyone and everyone! If you'd like to see more pics you can check them out here.

If you're planning a trip or want to plan a trip below is some information of all the things we did. Hopefully this will be helpful for you.

Where we stayed -

John Muir Lodge - specifically, the cabin tents. They are affordable and give you the camping feel. (Plus they're the best to wake up in! Crisp, cool mornings and bright morning sun light beaming in the whole room.)

Trails we hiked -

Moro Rock (in Sequoia NP)

Mist Falls Trail (in Kings Canyon)

Sugar Bowl Trail

Zumewalt Meadow and Roaring River Trail (we didn't actually get to do this one but it would be beautiful and not a very long trail.)

Obviously you have to go to General Sherman's Tree and even General Grant's Tree if you have time. Those are iconic so be sure not to miss them.
